Tragedy tore Wynter and Sam apart before he could tell her how he felt about her. Twelve years later, fate dropped her off on his doorstep, widowed, desperately broke, and very pregnant. Sam has spent his entire adult life trying to forget Wynter, and here she was, ready to collect on a promise he’d made when he was young and in love. His sense of honor dictated that he take her in when she needed him most. It was only temporary, after all. But living under the same roof quickly led to old feelings resurfacing. Now the one person he’d wanted to leave behind is the one person he can’t let go.

She knew seeing her reminded Sam of everything he’d lost, but Wynter had no choice. If she were going to make it back to Scallop Shores to raise her baby, she needed his help. Only she hadn’t counted on the long winter nights, getting reacquainted with a childhood friend she’d loved like a brother, a friend who’d grown into a man she found herself wanting to get to know on a whole different level.

Delivering Wynter’s baby at home during a fierce snow storm forces Sam to fill in as temporary dad. It’s a role he’d gladly make permanent. Too bad the one place Wynter is determined to raise her daughter is the one place Sam swore he’d never step foot in again. Had he gotten a second chance to tell her he loved her only to lose her again? Or is this time for keeps?

This is the first book I have read/listened to by Jennifer DeCuir. I didn’t realise when I first saw the blurb for Wynter’s Journey that it is actually part three of the Scallop Shores series. However it didn’t make it any less enjoyable I soon figured out what was going on.

Sam and Wynter have a history, high school sweethearts, a tragedy in Sam’s life prevented him telling her how he felt about her and they both moved on. Sam did always promise her if she needed him he would be available.

Fast forward several years, Wynter is now widowed and heavily pregnant .. she needs stability, somewhere to have her baby, a roof over her head .. so she shows up on Sam’s doorstep. He is shocked to say the least but welcomes her in.

From being so close they are now finding it tense, can Wynter cope alone, will they reignite their relationship? This is really a story about second chances, risking feelings, trusting enough to love and thinking about each other.

Wynter is a fairly sweet person but I’m sure she wound Sam up on purpose. He could be quite volatile but felt duty bound to support her. There are some great funny moments but it is also tinged with previous pain and guilt which demonstrates how important self-forgiveness is.

As an audio book it was certainly easy and pleasant to listen to. Gabrielle has a good range of vocals, at times I was almost lulled to sleep but then she would reach a higher pitch! She manages to articulate the characters sufficiently so you can follow who is who.

A good all-round romance with likeable, believable people that go from friendship to love and somewhere in between. I would happily listen/read the author and narrator again.

  1. Thanks for reviewing and posting Wynter’s Journey. Apologies for the confusion over it being book 3 of the Scallop Shores series. The great thing about this series is that each book is stand alone. The only thing connecting them is the town – and recurring characters that pop in for a quick hi. Much appreciation! 🙂

    • I enjoyed it .. just means I will want to read the others now 🙂
