If she’s an imposter, then who would be bold enough to try to fool a child’s own mother – and why? Then there are those who would rather Olivia stayed missing. The past is the past and some secrets must remain buried. An absorbing and gripping psychological thriller that will have you holding your breath until the final page.

About the Author

Kerry Wilkinson is from the English county of Somerset but has spent far too long living in the north. It’s there that he’s picked up possibly made-up regional words like ‘barm’ and ‘ginnel’. He pretends to know what they mean. He’s also been busy since turning thirty: his Jessica Daniel crime series has sold more than a million copies in the UK; he has written a fantasy-adventure trilogy for young adults; a second crime series featuring private investigator Andrew Hunter and the standalone thriller, Down Among The Dead Men.

My Review

This is another stonking read by Kerry Wilkinson. An author who has the ability to lure you in to his web of deceit and question everything and everybody. I really enjoy his writing style and yet again The Girl Who Came Back is a page turner.

A young child goes missing, her parents’ marriage falls apart, the guilt and horror of the situation are all too familiar but in this case the girl returns! After thirteen years Olivia shows up much to her mother’s delight, she is convinced it is her daughter.

Other people aren’t quite so sure, rumours fly that this is an impostor but who would do such a thing and why?

The pace and the resulting woven web are intriguing. The author makes you firmly believe you know what is happening but then something else crops up which bends the mind a bit more.

Olivia has to contend with her stepfather and his brother who are torn between not believing her and being highly dismayed to see her return.

Can she fit back into the village life she left behind so abruptly all those years ago? A good thriller with some twists and unexpected bits. I think I would need some crucial reassurance if I was in that situation no matter how much I wanted the child to be mine. DNA tests etc

My thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for my copy which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

  1. This sounds like a book that would tug at the heart strings, while also being a gripping page turning thriller. Sounds like a book I would enjoy. Great review Ali.
