My Review

So Double Jeopardy is the fourth in the ‘Hero’ series, once again I’m jumping in mid-series with no clue what has happened previously. Thankfully it didn’t matter one iota I was still able to immerse myself in this story. (I have read others by the author)

D.I Hero Nelson (don’t you just love that name!) and his team are investigating the murder of a wealthy business man who seemed to have it all so why would anyone want him dead? After questioning his work colleagues was the motive business or personal?

Hero and his partner DS Julie Shaw seem to have a fraught relationship which isn’t necessarily helped by him offering to put her forward for promotion .. however they have a crime to solve first.

As things hot up and they think they are on the right track Hero faces personal problems. I really liked the way Hero is so engrossed in his family, we get a good insight into his gorgeous wife, sister and parents .. going off on a tangent away from the crime investigation made me realise how much of himself Hero puts into the job.

He is a great character, the down to earth gritty nature of the writing is superb. I could totally relate to them all and by the end I was on tenterhooks. There is a lot of emotion rolled into the ending and I didn’t want to leave these people behind. I’m impressed I could so readily care about these characters that I had essentially just met. As for the crime there were twists and turns which I thought I knew what was happening but I was wrong. Fantastic thriller which I would recommend.

I need to go back and begin the series now just so I can get another fix of Hero .. my thanks to the author and Sarah at Bloodhound books for my copy which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
