About the Author

Rob is married to Karen with two grown up daughters. He is originally from South Wales and after moving around with work settled in North Lincolnshire where he’s spent the last twenty-two years.

Like all good welsh valley boys Rob worked for the National Coal Board after leaving school at sixteen and went to University at the tender age of twenty-three when the pit closures began to bite. Since then he’s worked in a variety of manufacturing and consulting roles both in the UK and abroad.

It took Rob twenty-four years to write his first book. He only became serious about writing it when his dad got cancer. It was an aggressive illness and Rob gave up work for three months to look after him and his mum. Writing Those That Remain became his coping mechanism. After he wrote the book his family encouraged him to continue, so not being one for half measures, Rob got himself made redundant, went self-employed so he could devote more time to writing and four years later the Mechanic Trilogy is the result.

When he is not writing, Rob is a frustrated chef with a liking for beer and prosecco, and is known for occasional outbreaks of dancing.

Rob is delighted that all three books in the Mechanic Trilogy will be published with Bloodhound Books in 2017.

My Review

After reading the first two books in the #Mechanic series and being totally blown away by them I was frantically counting the days until I could get my hands on Pay the Penance to to see the conclusion.

These really should be read in order, don’t miss a single sentence of pure suspense and action. I needed to see Lucas and Harper again to follow their journey chasing Mechanic. This duo work so well, there is so much invested in the relationship both work wise and personally. Lucas had his world torn apart by killer Mechanic so justice is needed. Detective  Moran also gets caught up in the investigation unwittingly getting a bit too close and lives are put at risk.

We get to see a broader view of Mechanic this time, warped, sadistic, freakin’ crazy doesn’t begin to cover it but I kind of admire their pure evil manipulation! And perhaps there is a little insight into why they behave as they do.

Mechanic is intent on revenge and determined to get Lucas and Harper to pay penance for previous events, there is so much corruption and murder involved you just know this can’t end well but which way will it go!?

I really enjoy the writing style, Rob manages to create these characters so they are gritty but down to earth, you immediately bond with them and after three books feel every inch of their trauma. Yes there is violence but it is so integral that it almost becomes the norm, there are a few parts that aren’t pleasant if you are squeamish.

My heart was hammering as I neared the climax of this book and as much as I wanted to know the outcome I was distraught that it was going to be the end. I do wonder how Rob sleeps at night when he has such evil as the Mechanic running around in his mind! I’m just so thankful that it has found it’s way into print to make one of the best crime series for a very long time. I think everyone should get a taste of Mechanic …. bloody excellent!

My thanks to Rob and Sarah at Bloodhound books for my copy and inviting me on the tour. I read and reviewed voluntarily and wish I could give Pay the Penance way more than 5 stars!
