SLEEP TIGHT by Caroline Mitchell
Close your eyes … Just pray you don’t wake up.
A killer stalks the streets of East London. All over the area, murdered young women are discovered, their bodies posed into a sickening recreation of fairytale princesses.
Detective Ruby Preston is determined to hunt down a disturbed individual who is using the women to realise their twisted fantasies. But when body parts are found at the home of her lover, Nathan Crosby, Ruby is torn between her job and her heart.
Convinced that he is being framed, Ruby must catch the killer before Nathan becomes the number one suspect. But as more victims are found, it becomes harder to prove his innocence.
Ruby is in too deep, knowing that the cruel individual is getting ever closer, looking for his next beautiful victim. But can she stop a killer hell-bent on fulfilling their horrific desires – before it’s too late? And how well does she really know the man she loves?
A terrifying, addictive serial killer thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, for readers of Angela Marsons, Peter James and Rachel Abbott.

My Review

I was given the opportunity for a pre-read of this ARC. Holy cow what a book!

We meet up with Detective Ruby Preston again as she attempts to keep the east end of London safe. A body turns up in a park and the crime team think they have their killer but more bodies appear, strangely linked to fairy tale characters .. only these aren’t your ‘bedtime’ story type!

Ruby has a history with Nathan a member of a notorious family associated with crime and misdemeanours .. can she keep her relationship with him out of the investigation? She will toe the police line but also bend a few rules if it gets too personal.

This is a story full of tension, fast paced yet so atmospheric. A page turner that ensures you keep reading. I like Ruby she is a really dedicated cop who lives for her job but has a rebellious side and that is refreshing to see. I wouldn’t like to be a suspect on her watch.

The description of the derelict building is eerie and almost too uncomfortable for someone like me to read due to my phobia of rodents!! Not only could I visualise them but the sound, smell and fear almost jumped from the page. Brilliant writing but please no more!! I had nightmares after reading this.

Graphic murder scenes and the suspect profile was spine-chilling .. plenty of twists and turns along with some great insight into the team members’ private lives which all ties in nicely and keeps the book interesting.

Ruby is desperate to catch the killer before tragedy strikes again and it is a real race against time, superb, magnificent and all-in-all frickin marvellous. I absolutely adored this book but still have goosebumps on my skin. It will be a while before I have sweet dreams again!

Caroline gets better with each book … I can’t wait for more.
