When all-round buttercream princess, Millie Carter, becomes stranded at Craiglea Manor Cookery School, she believes her chance of enjoying a merry festive season is over.

The village of Aisford is Christmas-card perfect, but Millie hates it – she hates the snow, her freezing fingertips, and being forced to look like her Aunt Marjory in a mud-splattered wax jacket and wellies instead of her beloved shorts and sparkly sandals.

She plots her escape but ends up locking spatulas with the estate manager, Fergus McKenzie, who is forced to rescue her before she succumbs to a severe dose of hypothermia. Things start to improve with the arrival of handsome Sam Morgan, fresh from the beaches and rum shacks of the Caribbean.

Can Millie accept her fate? And will Aisford sprinkle some of its seasonal magic on her troubles?

Snowflakes and Christmas Cakes is a festive story of love and friendship and reaching for the buttercream icing and edible glitter when life gets tough.

My Review

With the deluge of ‘Christmas’ books available at this time of the year I am likely to miss some gems or get totally overloaded and want some sunshine! However this one has been on my TBR for a long time so I delved in.

Millie did in fact live in France with the wall to wall sunshine, wearing only shorts,  t.shirt and strappy sandals she arrives in England during a hefty snowstorm .. shock number one for Millie. She has recently split from her chef partner and comes ‘home’ to visit her sister for the holidays.

Unfortunately plans collapse and her sister and family are called away to a sick in-law and Millie faces the prospect of Christmas alone. However she soon finds out she is expected to take over a luxurious cooking course that her sister was due to host … so Millie has a purpose .. get to the manor house in the snowstorm and survive the weekend it’s her idea of hell!

This is a shortish book but has a lot going on, the comedy factor is entertaining, the endless talk of food is mouth watering and the numerous ‘men’ who are willing to be knights in shining armour for Millie are somewhat predictable but amusing.

I could sympathise with Millie, she hates the cold, prefers to look like a fashion icon rather than a scarecrow dressed in wellies and heavy waterproof coats, the sheer enormity of being stranded were well written. Throw in a quad bike, 4×4 vehicle and a sneaky crook with a shotgun and the scene is set.

Great little book but make sure you have a supply of drink and nibbles before you start or you will be constantly getting up to find something to eat!

Thanks to the author and Jenny from Neverland Blog Tours .. this is my honest opinion. stars-4-0-_v192197091_
