My Review

Take a look at this striking cover … the sheer brightness and charm sums up The Cosy Canal Boat Dream perfectly. From the very first page I was transported to the Little Rock marina and aboard the ‘Nollie’, the home so called by Nell and Ollie! Tragedy has struck though, Ollie is no more and Nell is living alone on her floating home coping with her grief.

She is supported by her best friend Bea, their relationship is so sweet and natural, Bea has a Deli Cafe where Nell works on the basis that they are helping each other out. The delicious foods on offer there will make your mouth water, so don’t read if you are feeling peckish.

Life goes on, Nell literally bumps into a rather hunky stranger called Guy, she is drawn to his gorgeous dog or is it his twinkling eyes and Irish charm!? They share a passion for old picture houses and Nell embarks on purchasing the vacant cinema and revamping it to it’s former glory. What trials and tribulations will that venture bring!

It wouldn’t be a story without a huge quota of secrets, friendships, romance and community spirit. I enjoyed getting acquainted with all the locals around the marina, it seems such a perfect location to live. So many books these days are based around seaside cottages or hotels/guest houses etc it made a refreshing change to be on a canal boat! Not my ideal place to live but I can certainly appreciate the connection to water.

There are plenty of sub plots interlinking the main tale which revolves around Nell, quite a few times I thought I knew where it was going and Christie threw in another curve ball. This is an absolutely delightful read, perfect for anyone who enjoys a romantic comedy that has a bit more substance, it delves a little deeper into the readers emotions creating a few stifled sobs moments before dealing another smile inducing situation.

Christie Barlow has a flair for writing mood enhancing warmth and comfort books to brighten any day.

My thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for my copy which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
