#BlogTour #Review ~ The Singalong Society for Singletons by Katey Lovell

A charming, feel good novel about the healing powers of friendship…and Frozen!

Monique and Issy are teachers, housemates and lovers of musicals! Their Friday night routine consists of snacks, wine and the Frozen DVD. So when Monique’s boyfriend moves to America for a year and her sister Hope moves in because of her own relationship woes, Friday nights get a new name… ‘The Singalong Society for Singletons’!

It’s a chance to get together, sing along to their favourite tracks from the best-loved West End shows, and forget the worries of work, relationships and love (or lack of it). But when Issy shares the details of their little group further afield, they get some unexpected new members who might just change their opinions on singledom for good….

About the Author

I grew up in South Wales and now live in Sheffield with my husband David, son Zachary and our friendly moggie Clarence. If I’m not writing, I’ll most likely be found with my nose in a book or reviewing on my blog Books with Bunny.

My Review

I have loved all the #MeetCute books I have read by Katey so I was curious to see how this full length novel would compare.

It’s got a bright inviting cover, the potential of some fabulous music and a light-hearted chick-lit vibe.

When a group of girls get together on a Friday night it can only mean one thing surely .. wine, pizza and discussing the boyfriends! Well maybe times have changed since I was single but now apparently they also have a sing-along! This is quite a novel idea .. it plays out well in the book that each Friday one of the group pick their favourite and they all watch the DVD and sing their hearts out .. heaven help the neighbours!

I did wonder how a whole book was going to be stretched out over  several musicals but we also get the weekly catch up of gossip between the four girls, broken hearts, dependent parents, pregnancy, work challenges etc. This all plods along quite easily until two new members join the group and then things take on a different course.

There is a great feeling of optimism, friendship shining through as well as the occasional squabble. Maybe music really can help the soul and it should come on prescription! I particularly smiled when I saw my favourite included .. Rocky Horror has to be the best musical event ever and I defy anyone not to be cheered by that.

All-in-all a very easy light read, with an element of fun included .. I will keep an eye on what Katey does next.
