My Review

This is a splendid book. I had been in a rut of ‘similar’ rom-com which I love but wanted something entirely different and this certainly provided that.

Sophie and Francesca (Frankie) best friends since childhood, living in a small town where a lot of the entertainment seemed to rotate around the pier, pubs and nightclubs as they grew up.

The story is told from both of their points of view .. Sophie’s are based 18 years earlier as a diary.

Frankie moves away, new town, new job, new life. Sophie disappears without a trace the only clue is her trainer left near the pier. Therefore missing presumed drowned.

When Daniel, Sophie’s brother and old boyfriend of Frankie’s suddenly calls her out of the blue after 18 years to tell her remains have been found and it is thought to be Sophie she returns to her hometown to help him with the ID/mystery etc

What follows is an account of how their lives panned out, we hear how Frankie’s Dad treated Sophie and get to know all the various friends of the time.

I was gripped throughout this thinking the ending was going to be predictable but as it all unfolds it becomes apparent what a cleverly written book it is and I highly recommend it. Pure tension and complete astonishment at the revelations.

I will now check out  The Sisters also by this author. Thanks to Netgalley, publisher and author for my copy. stars-4-0-_v192197091_
