About the Author

Daniel Riding is an author who currently resides just outside of Liverpool, which in his opinion is one of the best cities for creative and writerly inspiration. When not writing and drinking copious amounts of tea, Daniel is a bookseller for Waterstones in Liverpool City Center, which after writing is one of the best jobs in the world.

My Review

I read The Secret Diary of Naughty Cat a while ago (Review Here) so obviously leapt at Merry Christmas Naughty Cat. Yes, it’s fundamentally a children’s book but for anyone who loves cats and Christmas this is an absolute winner.

I enjoy and admire Daniel’s writing style and his insight into the cat psyche. It is blatantly clear that he is a cat lover and is owned by one or two due to his ability to create a story that any fellow cat person will understand.

Not only does the book include the antics of Naughty Cat, what puss doesn’t like sparkly baubles and find it incredibly hard to resist playing with the tinsel but this feline does it with so much love and humour. On a deeper level it portrays the importance of quality time for the adults, Christmas isn’t just about excesses, the true meaning of the season goes a lot deeper and this aspect is explored in a light entertaining way but manages to ring true.

This is an adorable short read that is perfect in the run up to the big day, either read alone or share with your kids. I’m sure there are many who would be over the moon to find a copy in their stocking on Christmas morning.

In a world that seems to be filled with doom and gloom recently this is a sparkling jewel of fun, cosy, light entertainment and I can’t wait to see what Naughty Cat adventures may come next.
