The purrfect gift this Christmas…

The night her house catches fire, kick-ass lawyer Tish McKenna’s neatly ordered life is thrown into chaos. At least she’s alive—thanks to her adorable cat, Socks!—and after her near-death experience Tish realises she wants more in her life than late nights and case files…

Professionally speaking, hot-shot attorney, Spencer Capshaw hadn’t realised how far off track he’d come. Sure, he had his reasons originally—saving his dad’s life required more money than the DA’s office paid him—yet helping corrupt corporate bigwigs was not why he became a lawyer…

With a little help from a furry friend, these two lost souls find each other in the heart of Manhattan. But when Tish and Spence are pitted against each other in a trial that pushes them both to their limits, can their budding relationship survive?

About the Author

I’ve always been a writer of some sort, having spent my career working as a reporter, anchor or producer in television news. Fiction is a lot more fun, since you don’t have to deal with those pesky things known as facts. I grew up in the New York City metropolitan area and now live on the Gulf Coast where I will never shovel snow again. I’m happily married to a math teacher and we share our wonderful home with our tortoiseshell tabby cat, Gypsy.

My Review

If you want a brilliantly told story that involves strong women, gorgeous gentlemen, beyond cuteness kittens and NYC then you really need to pick up this book by Nic Tatano. After reading the first in this series ‘The Lost Cats and Lonely Hearts Club’    I was more than eager to read this. The first book revolves around Madison and a litter of rescued kittens, this one follows on featuring her friend Tish who is the ‘human’ for Socks .. one of the litter. This one can be read as a stand alone but to get full enjoyment read them both.

Tish is an upshot lawyer known in the field as Jaws .. in her work life she is meticulous a force to be reckoned with and probably extremely scary! In her personal life she is rather shy, lacking confidence in the love department, but a loyal friend who idolises her cat.

Socks is the hero through most of this story, she is the one who alerts Tish to the catastrophe of her house on fire. Poor Tish has to relocate to a hotel while repairs are carried out and Socks can’t go with her, but she compromises and keeps her in her office. As cats are prone to thinking of their stomachs foremost it doesn’t take long for Socks to find another kind human in the same office block who feeds her treats!

While Tish is out in a restaurant she witnesses a man coming to the aid of a waitress, he strikes her as a knight in shining armour and her ‘crush’ instincts are raised. When she bumps into him again at Benny’s street soda cart she is once again smitten.

Spencer is in court to listen in to a case and spots a beauty who is in action .. little did he know that he would eventually meet this fellow lawyer. Is it fate or does Socks perform a little match-making magic!?

This is such an enjoyable book, Spence and Tish make a charming coy couple. Benny is a sweetheart and dishes out his wisdom to the pair when either shows up for coffee or OJ. Socks is adorable and gets up to mischief, keep an eye on the air vent.

Due to both of them being lawyers there is a fair amount of ‘legal’ action all written so the reader can understand it (thanks goodness) and it is fascinating. The main case comes to a conclusion just as Christmas approaches so there is a nice element of the holidays included. The Empire State building houses the offices so my NYC craving is covered. Top of the building in the snow .. you can’t beat it, but wrap up warm!!

This will appeal to anyone who wants a feel-good, slow build romance with all the right essentials included. I can’t wait for the next kitten adventure.

I voluntarily read a copy from Harper Impulse and Netgalley .. this is my honest opinionstars-5-0-_v192197110_
