The Setting
Langthorne, typical of many smaller seaside towns dotted around the UK’s coastline. Once a thriving tourist destination, where the affluent built grand seafront houses, it has suffered a hard fall from grace. Unemployment has blighted the area and so has crime.

The Detectives
George Elms joined the police pretty much straight out of school and now in his mid-thirties, he’s been getting in the faces of criminals for over fifteen years. Well known and respected on both sides of the line, he was responsible for running a team working the crimes that come out of one of the county’s most notorious housing estates. He is married to Sarah and they have a little girl.

This is the final book of the Langthorne series.

My Review

Now I have come to this series incredibly late considering this is the fourth and final part but I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed End Game. I’m sure it would have enhanced my enjoyment if I had read the previous books but it was easy enough to get the gist.

Sergeant George Elms has been imprisoned after being wrongly accused, he is now released and instead of being able to lie low and reflect he is yanked straight back on to a case hunting a cop killer.

Needless to say his wife isn’t overly impressed with this decision. Can George really function at a level where he serves a purpose or is he easy bait? Understandably George is bitter, has no idea who he can trust and struggles to maintain his personal life.

This is a fast paced, gritty police drama, corruption within the force seems rife, kidnapping, and murder make for a tense theme. The characters are all believable even if they are not overly pleasant!

I trundled through this and gained a huge sympathy for George by the end .. quite sad it finished but at least I have the option of buying the first three in the Langthorne series and read it a bit back to front!

My thanks to the author and Joffe Books for my copy which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
